Back and clubbing

Well it’s been a crazy busy time! Even though there hasn’t been any posts for quite some time there has been a heap of research going on. Thanks for all your comments, I do appreciate them. In the coming weeks we will be searching through the state archives to confirm stories, incidents and licensing info from many a club, piecing the history together. These projects do take time and the next couple of months will be full steam ahead.

Throughout November there will be a special display of club memorabilia at the Brisbane Square Library in the City. If you have anything that you would like to lend for this display let us know. We are looking for photos, flyers, matchboxes, ashtrays, glasses, uniforms in fact anything relating to clubs from 1950-2000. So if you’d like to help out, just go to our contact page.

Have been re-reading thru’ the Club lists and comments and am surprised that no-one has mentioned the Flamingo Club which was located towards the Valley along from what was the National Hotel in Queen Street. We would go there sometimes after our Gig. Interesting to note that all these little Clubs had live music, thus giving local musicians an income. Unlike today where musicians are much expected to perform for very little payment, if at all. In the 60s and 70s I had a very healthy income as a full-time musician.

Thanks for letting me know about the Flamingo Club Louis, so was it located in the National Hotel? Do you remember what years it was open? It is a shame that musicians these days are paid so low. Lucky that you did get the opportunity to work in such a good era.

The Flamingo Club was not located in the National Hotel but along the road a bit, towards the Valley. I think it operated mostly in the 60s & 70s, and like someone commented, pity we did not have digital cameras then to record those times.
